Privacy and Cookie Policy

On 25 May 2018, the new privacy regulations, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), came into force. With this privacy and cookie policy, we aim to provide you with clarity on how we handle your data.

Personal data

As part of our services as a multichannel publishing organisation, Media Primair BV processes personal data. We obtain this data because you use our services and/or because you provide it to us yourself. This includes, for example, data you provide to us when taking out a subscription to one of our magazines or information we collect when you use our (mobile) websites, apps, online shops and other services, such as online promotions, events and campaigns, competitions and loyalty programmes.

We only use data that is necessary to provide our services to you as effectively as possible or that we are required to record.

You are not obliged to disclose your personal data when you purchase a product or service from us. You are free to choose at all times whether or not you wish to provide your personal data. However, in order to use some of our products and services, the provision of personal data is necessary.

Below is an overview of the personal data we process:

    • First name and surname

    • Address details

    • Telephone number

    • Email address

    • Date of birth*

    • Our website and/or service does not intend to collect data about website visitors who are under 16 years of age, unless they have permission from their parents or guardian. However, we cannot verify whether a visitor is over 16. We therefore advise parents to be involved in their children’s online activities to prevent data about children from being collected without parental consent.

If you believe that we have collected personal data about a minor without such consent, please contact us at [email protected], and we will delete this information.

Data collection

Media Primair B.V. processes your personal data for the purpose of contacting you by telephone or email where necessary to provide our services.

Broadly speaking, there are five ways in which we (may) collect (personal) data:

    • Purchase/delivery of products (e.g. a magazine subscription): in this context, we process the personal data you have provided to us yourself, such as your name, address and place of residence (for delivery purposes), financial details such as your bank account number (for payment purposes), and the fact that you have used that specific product or service (and are therefore evidently interested in it);

    • Creating an account on a (mobile) website or in an app: this involves the processing of personal data that you yourself provide to us when creating the account or to which you have granted us access (when using a social login), such as your email address and (user) name;

    • Requesting products/services via our (mobile) websites and apps (for example, subscribing to an email newsletter): this involves processing information that you yourself have provided to us via the website; such as your email address;

    • Use of our (mobile) websites and apps: this involves processing information about your use of those (mobile) websites and apps, such as the pages and websites visited within our network, the advertisements displayed in connection with this and the advertisements you have clicked on. We can deduce your potential interests from this information;

    • Use of our apps: this involves the processing of (personal) data that you have entered yourself via the app, or information to which you have granted us access (such as location data).

This data therefore ranges from personal data, such as your name, email address, postal address and telephone number (data on the basis of which you can be directly identified), to information which, although it relates to you, does not allow you to be identified either directly or indirectly. This privacy and cookie policy governs the way in which we handle all this data.

Purposes

We collect and process personal data for the following purposes, including via the (mobile) websites we operate:

For the conclusion and performance of a contract entered into with you; to offer and provide you with the agreed services, products and/or information, and to tailor these to your needs and wishes;

    • to enable you to post and exchange information on one of the websites, or, if the website offers this facility, to contact other users;

    • in the case of a paid service/product, for invoicing purposes. We never publish financial data on a website, nor do we make it available to third parties for purposes other than the performance of the agreement. If payment for our products or services is not received, we may, for example, refer the claim to third parties, such as a debt collection agency;

    • to make targeted offers, e.g. via email. For example, an advertisement for a product that we suspect may be of interest to you based on data we have processed may be displayed on a website or in an app. We may create a profile of you in order to optimise the offers we make;

    • to send you a newsletter, offer, user information, service message or other electronic communication;

    • to analyse, maintain, optimise and secure our (mobile) websites, apps and associated technologies, and to prevent fraud;

    • to comply with the laws and regulations applicable to us, and for the resolution of disputes and the performance of (audit) checks;

    • to conduct market research and compile management information for the purposes of product and service development and to determine our (overall) strategy;

Please note that not all data is always processed for the same purposes. For example, some data is retained solely for invoicing purposes or to provide the requested service, whilst other data may be used both to analyse and improve the use of our websites and to make targeted offers.

In some cases, we may combine your data with data collected in connection with your purchase or use of various products or services (and/or products or services of our group companies) or with information from external sources (such as demographic and geographic segments from Cendris). Based on all this data, we create a profile so that we can serve you better and tailor the content of these products and services (including websites and magazine offerings) even more closely to your interests.

Media Primair B.V. may share your personal data with group companies. This includes all subsidiaries of Media Primair B.V.

We may only send you information and offers from third parties regarding their products and services via email if you have given us your consent to do so. Such information and offers will always be sent from Media Primair B.V..

In special cases, we may make personal data available to third parties without your consent. Special cases include, for example, lawful requests from authorities, summonses or court orders, actions to detect or prevent damage or fraud, or actions to ensure the security of our network and our services.

We may also provide personal data to so-called processors who, on our behalf, supply products or services to you at your request, in which case (unless otherwise stated) your personal data will only be used to fulfil that supply obligation. These processors are not authorised to use this data for their own purposes.

Finally, we may share certain anonymised data with third parties, such as the number of users who searched using a particular search term, or how many users clicked on a particular advertisement. You cannot be identified on the basis of this data.

Media Primair will not retain your personal data for longer than is strictly necessary to achieve the purposes for which your data is collected.

Media Primair will only disclose data to third parties if this is necessary for the performance of our agreement with you or to comply with a legal obligation.
