The ferry ms "Helgoland" (1963) was a remarkable ship with a versatile history. Built by Howaldtswerke Hamburg AG for HADAG (Hamburg-Dampfschifffahrts-Gesellschaft), it was originally deployed for passenger transport between Cuxhaven and the North Sea island of Helgoland.

1966–1972: Converted into a hospital ship and deployed by the German Red Cross in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
1972: After returning to Germany, sold to Stena Line and renamed Stena Finlandica.
1975: Sold to Förde Reederei Seetouristik GmbH and renamed Baltic Star.
1999: End of duty-free services; the ship became idle.
2000: Sold to Latin Cruises in Ecuador and converted into a cruise ship.
2002: Renamed Galapagos Legend and deployed for cruises around the Galapagos Islands.
2006: Sold to Galatours from Guayaquil, Ecuador, and registered under the Georgian flag.
