Details:
The PH-APZ is a unique aircraft with a rich history. The aircraft in the photos is an (airworthy) replica of the Lambach HL II built in 1937. This aircraft was built and developed in 1937 by Hugo Lambach, a graduate of Delft University.

The aircraft was built in 6 months and was intended to compete with the qualitatively superior German aircraft of that time during aerobatic competitions. Shelter for its construction was found in the Starlift lift factory in Rotterdam. The aircraft, nicknamed 'Appelzuurtje' (Little Apple Acid), flew at various airshows until 1940, but was ultimately not as good as the German competition.

The aircraft had a fuselage consisting of a tubular frame, covered with linen. Furthermore, wooden wings and a 140hp Gipsy Major Mk.1 engine.

The original PH-APZ was lost on 10 May 1940 at the then Ypenburg airfield during the German bombardment at the start of the Second World War. The builder Hugo Lambach later collaborated with Fokker and passed away in 1972.

The replica was built by the Student Aircraft Development, Construction and Management Foundation.

The first plans for the construction of the replica date back to 1989. In total, it took 6 years to build the aircraft. This was possible with exact fidelity because the original drawings were present in the Aviodrome.

On 18 September 1995, the replica flew for the first time from Gilze-Rijen. In 1996, the aircraft visited various events by air. There, I was also able to see the PH-APZ flying at Schaffen-Diest (B). Shortly thereafter, in 1997, hairline cracks were discovered in the wing supports, causing the aircraft to lose its airworthiness.

After some detours, it eventually ended up in the Aviodrome collection in Lelystad. There, the aircraft is sometimes even exhibited outdoors, such as in 2011 during the NVAV fly-in held at the museum.
