HNLMS Mercuur (A900) is a torpedo support ship and, like the minehunters and HOVs, falls under Small Surface Vessels. Nevertheless, the Mercuur cannot be separated from the Walrus-class submarines. The primary task of the Mercuur is to support submarines, especially concerning torpedoes. HNLMS Mercuur also provides for the resupply of the subs in the exercise areas around Scotland and in the Norwegian fjords. Furthermore, the ship often serves as a training target for (exercise)torpedoes, which are then picked up again by the Mercuur.
