The Fokker F.III is an aircraft built by the Dutch company Fokker in the 1920s. The F.III was developed from the Fokker F.II, partly at the request of KLM director Albert Plesman. The design was first shown in October 1920 and was created by Fokker's engineer Reinhold Platz. The first flight took place in early 1921. The machine was initially built only in the German Fokker factories, but not much later also in the Dutch ones.

The F.III is a single-engine, two-bladed propeller aircraft. It is a high-wing monoplane with a semi-open cockpit. The pilot sits next to the aircraft's engine, which causes him to be unpleasantly heated on one side. Behind the cockpit is a cabin with space for 5 passengers. Some versions of the F.III also have a separate cargo hold.

Although KLM was very pleased with the Fokker F.II, there was an immediate need for a better aircraft. Plesman wanted more speed and capacity and, following the 2 F.IIs, placed an order with Fokker for 8 F.IIIs. Plesman wanted to trade in his F.IIs with Fokker, but Fokker did not allow this, which caused some friction. The F.IIIs met the requirements, and more orders followed. KLM owned a total of 16 F.IIIs, equipped with various engines. The machines remained in service until after the introduction of their successor at KLM, the Fokker F.VII.

On 22 June 1922, the first fatal accident in KLM history occurred. An F.III, with pilot A.P.J. Pijl, got lost in the fog over the English Channel. Nothing was ever recovered from the HN-ABS.
