Fokker T.V
Source : www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fokker_T.V
The Fokker T.V was a twin-engine fighter-cruiser-bomber from Fokker. It was a relatively modern aircraft for its time, used by the Dutch Air Force Department. Designed in 1935 as a fighter-cruiser to patrol large areas for extended periods, it was ultimately ordered for use as a bomber.
The original plan called for 3 Bomber Squadrons (bombardeervliegtuig-afdeling), but when the war broke out, only 16 Fokker T-Vs had been delivered, of which 9 (850, 853, 854, 855, 856, 858, 859, 862 and 865) were assigned to 1 Bomber Squadron; the 852 was almost ready, the 857 had no engines, the 863 was awaiting armament, the 851 was used as a source of spare parts, and the 860 was next to the KLM building. Besides these aircraft, all of which were at Schiphol, the 861 was at De Vlijt, Texel, where it was used for pilot training. Of the 9 operational aircraft, only 2 were equipped with bomb racks.
During the May days, the Fokker T-Vs strafed airfields that had been captured by German airborne troops. The 850 and 856, the only ones with bomb racks, unsuccessfully attempted to destroy the Moerdijk Bridge, which had already been captured by German paratroopers on 10 May and could have meant a German breakthrough into the Holland defence line. On 13 May, the 856 was the last Fokker T-V of the Bomber Squadron to be lost.
Like the G-1, it was equipped with retractable landing gear, which all other Dutch aircraft lacked. It had a 20 mm Solothurn cannon in the nose turret. Due to the absence of a rubber safety coating around the wing tanks, these aircraft were quickly set on fire by tracer ammunition.
