A land yacht is a unique type of sailing vehicle used on beaches and wide sandy plains. It is a light, often three-wheeled cart on which a sail is mounted, allowing you to "sail" across the beach or sand, propelled by the wind.
Three-wheeled or four-wheeled vehicle: For stability and to be able to drive over the sand.
Sail: Just like with a sailboat, the sail catches wind to move forward.
Steering: Often with a steering wheel or bar to determine direction.
Used on flat beaches: Especially where there is plenty of space and hard sandy areas.
Popular as a sport: Land yachting is a recreational sport and an exciting activity involving speed and agility.
Land yachting originated mainly in coastal areas with spacious, flat beaches, such as in the Netherlands, Germany, and France. It is a fun combination of sailing and driving a type of racing cart over the sand.
