History and Significance
On the occasion of her 18th birthday in 1956, Princess Beatrix received the sailing yacht De Groene Draeck as a gift from the Dutch people, organised by the 'Comité Varend Nederland' (Sailing Netherlands Committee). The ship was built at the Amsterdamsche Scheepswerf G. de Vries Lentsch Jr., with the keel laid on 16 January 1957 and launched on 4 June 1957. The ship was officially handed over to Princess Beatrix on 15 June 1957.

The name De Groene Draeck refers to the green dragon in Princess Beatrix's coat of arms. The ship has since become a beloved symbol of the Royal Family and is regularly used for private trips and official occasions.

Construction and Design
The design of De Groene Draeck is a modern interpretation of the traditional Lemsteraak. The ship has a length of 15 metres and features a wooden hull and an aluminium deck. A special feature of the design is the woodwork in the cockpit, which is made of teak and contains unique carving details

The ship is equipped with a 65 hp Perkins engine and features a ladies' cabin for four people, a gentlemen's cabin for two people, and two spare berths in the saloon. The forepeak is intended for the ship's permanent crew and has a separate access to the deck.

Recent Maintenance and Restoration
In September 2021, De Groene Draeck was taken out of service for a major renovation. The renovation was necessary due to wear and tear, corrosion, and outdated systems on board. The work included restoring the wooden hull, renewing the wooden deck, and updating the electrical systems. Specialists with knowledge of traditional craftsmanship and experience with Lemsteraak yachts were engaged for the restoration.
On 22 April 2023, the ship was put back into service by Princess Beatrix, who sailed from Stavoren to Enkhuizen.

Present Day and Mooring
De Groene Draeck is moored in Muiden, from where it regularly sails on the IJsselmeer, the Wadden Sea, and other Dutch waters. The ship is intensively used by Princess Beatrix, her family, and guests.
