General class information
The Westgat-class is a class of two tugs built for the Royal Netherlands Navy.
The ships were built at the Rijkswerf (National Shipyard) in Willemsoord, Den Helder.
They were designed for towing, salvage, and firefighting duties.
Unarmed in standard configuration, but could be equipped with two 20 mm cannons.

Builder: Rijkswerf Willemsoord
Commissioned: 10 January 1968.
Dimensions / Displacement: ~206 tonnes.
Propulsion: 1 propeller, Bolnes diesel engine (~720 hp according to some sources).
Speed: Approximately 12 knots according to some class data.
Crew: Around 9 men according to some reports.

Builder: Also Rijkswerf Willemsoord.
Commissioned: 31 May 1968.
Displacement / Dimensions: Same as Westgat-class (~206 tonnes).
Propulsion / Engine: similar to her sister ship (Bolnes diesel engine).
Later fate: In 1992, the Wielingen was sold. After sale, she was named Pieter.
Current status: According to Wamandai, as “Pieter” she was still active in towing and salvage work.
The Westgat-class is small but robust, suitable for both coastal and harbour work.
Due to their power and seaworthiness, they could also assist larger naval vessels. According to the historical description of the Westgat, she was very seaworthy and had a large operating range.
After transfer to Belgium, the Westgat operated under the name Albatros for the Belgian Navy.
