The Charlotte Rhodes was a three-masted topsail schooner, built in 1904 by F. Hoffman in Fjelleborn, Denmark. Originally named Meta Jan, she served as a cargo ship before being converted and restored in the 1970s.
Under the ownership of Jim "Mac" Mackreth, she gained international fame through her appearance in the BBC television series The Onedin Line from 1971. Her distinctive black hull and red sails made her a recognisable symbol of the series.
Tragically, the Charlotte Rhodes was destroyed by arson on 12 October 1979 in the port of Amsterdam. This marked the end of her rich history. Despite her destruction, she remains a beloved ship among maritime enthusiasts and television fans.
