The Hr.Ms. Tromp (1938) was a light cruiser of the Royal Netherlands Navy, originally classified as a flotilla leader. She was built to serve as the flagship for a squadron of destroyers and possessed sufficient firepower and speed to support both offensive and defensive operations.

The Tromp was one of the most modern ships in the Dutch navy when she entered service. During the Second World War, she was deployed on various operations, including escorting convoys and engaging Japanese units in the Pacific. In 1944, she took part in Operation Crimson, during which she attacked Japanese units and was herself hit, but sustained no fatal damage
