The Sikorsky S-61L and S-61N are the civilian versions of the Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King. These two aircraft are mostly used for transport to oil rigs and for general passenger transport.

Development.
In 1957, Sikorsky received a contract from the USAF for an amphibious anti-submarine helicopter. This led to the creation of the Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King. The first prototype flew for the first time in 1959 and they were produced from 1961.
Sikorsky was very quick to develop a civilian version of the Sea King, and the first prototype of the civilian version flew in November 1961. The aircraft was approximately 1.30 metres longer than the Sea King, making it better suited for passenger transport.
