History and restoration

The L.A. Buma was specially built for Moddergat and was equipped with a retractable centreboard for sailing and copper air cases for unsinkability. After its active service, the sloop was converted into a pleasure yacht and purchased in 2000 by the Willem Horsman Foundation. After a thorough restoration, the sloop returned to Moddergat on 31 March 2011, exactly 100 years after its construction.

Present Day

Today, the L.A. Buma is once again in use as a racing rowing boat. Enthusiastic volunteers train regularly and participate in rowing sloop competitions. For photos, videos, and competition information, please visit the sloop's Facebook page.
