The Danish torpedo boats Huitfeldt (D320) and Willemoes (D321) were two vessels of the Huitfeldt class, a series of two torpedo boats originally built during the Second World War and later deployed by the Royal Danish Navy.

Armament

The armament varied during the ships’ service. Originally, the ships were equipped with:

2 × 105 mm M/40 guns

2 × 40 mm Bofors L/60 guns

6 × 20 mm M/41 guns

6 × 533 mm torpedo tubes (2x3)

2 × depth charge launchers of Swedish origin

60 mines (on mine rails on the deck)

 

In 1955, the weapon systems were modernised with:navalhistory.dk+1navalhistory.dk+1

3 × 40 mm Bofors L/60 guns

4 × Mk.6 depth charge launchers

2 × depth charge launchers (18 depth charges)


 

Service history

Both ships were originally built under the names Nymfen and Najaden, but after the liberation they were renamed Huitfeldt and Willemoes in honour of two famous Danish naval heroes.

Huitfeldt (D320):

Commissioned: 26 July 1947

Decommissioned: 27 July 1964

Fate: Sold and scrapped in Antwerp, Belgium

Willemoes (D321):

Commissioned: 24 May 1947

Decommissioned: 11 January 1966

Fate: Sold and scrapped in Antwerp, Belgium
