Source: www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_DC-8
The Douglas DC-8 is a commercial aircraft manufactured by the American aircraft manufacturer Douglas Aircraft Company. It can carry up to 189 passengers over a distance of more than 12,000 kilometres. On 30 May 1958, a DC-8 made its maiden flight. Various versions were built, with different types of engines. The aircraft appeared on the market later than the Boeing 707 and consequently lagged behind commercially. Production ceased in 1972.
On 21 August 1961, a Canadian Douglas DC-8 became the first commercial aircraft to break the sound barrier.
