Background

The Curaçao was originally built in Great Britain as the steamship Calpe in 1825.

It was purchased by the Dutch government in 1826 and renamed Curaçao.

This ship is historically significant as it was the first steamship of the Royal Netherlands Navy.

Eventually taken out of service when larger and more efficient steamships came into use.
