Operational History

On 3 March 1956, the Kinderdijk made her maiden voyage from Rotterdam to New York. During her service, she primarily sailed to the east coast of the United States, the Gulf of Mexico, and to Mexican ports such as Veracruz, Tampico, and Coatzacoalcos. The voyages to Mexico were particularly pleasant for the crew, who could often enjoy local outdoor cafes with live music ashore in the evenings.

In April 1969, after more than 75 voyages for HAL, the ship was chartered to Johnson-Lines in Sweden for liner services between Sweden and South America. In April 1970, the Kinderdijk was sold to the Yugoslav shipping company Splosna Plovidba Piran and renamed Borovnica. She sailed on routes between the Mediterranean and West Africa. In 1982, the ship was sold for scrap and delivered to the Brodopas scrapyard in Split, Yugoslavia, on 30 December 1982
