The AIDAvita was incorporated into the AIDA Cruises fleet in 2002 and primarily operated in the Western Mediterranean, South America, and on Transatlantic routes. The ship returned annually to Hamburg, Germany, for the departure of its cruises.
In November 2021, the AIDAvita was taken out of service and temporarily laid up in Tallinn, Estonia . In June 2022, AIDA Cruises announced that the ship would not return to the fleet.
In January 2024, the AIDAvita was sold to the China Development Bank in Hong Kong, for charter to the Chinese shipping company Blue Dream International Cruise from Shanghai. The ship was renamed Blue Dream Melody and arrived in China in March 2024 for a planned refit and reintroduction
The AIDAvita offered an informal and relaxed atmosphere on board, aimed at a younger audience. There were no formal gala dinners; instead, there were two buffet restaurants and an à la carte restaurant. The Body & Soul Spa was one of the most popular facilities on board, along with a gym, a jogging track, and a swimming pool .
