A 6-metre jol is a traditional flat-bottomed sailing boat, often associated with Dutch inland waterways. These boats are popular for their stability, spaciousness and distinctive appearance.
Length: Approximately 6 metres (6.80 metres in the case of the Staverse Jol 6.80)
Width: Between 2.5 and 3 metres
Draught: Approximately 0.7 metres
Hull material: Often steel or wood
Sail type: Usually a mainsail with a jib
Propulsion: Inboard or outboard engine
Dinghies of around 6 metres were originally used to transport goods such as hay, manure and peat in the Dutch polders. They are designed for shallow waters and are therefore ideal for the many ditches and canals in the Netherlands. Nowadays, they are mainly used for recreational sailing and are popular with model builders due to their classic lines and simplicity.
