The ms Schouten (1954) was a Dutch cargo ship that was built for the Koninklijke Paketvaart-Maatschappij (KPM) and later put into service by the Koninklijke Java-China-Paketvaart Lijnen (KJCPL). The ship was part of a series of four vessels, including the Houtman, Roggeveen and Van Waerwijck, which were built in 1954 and entered service in 1955.

The Schouten was one of four ships built after the Combination Agreement between KJCPL and KPM on 27 September 1954, which paved the way for further expansion of the KJCPL.


 

Service History

After the merger between KPM and KJCPL in 1966, the Schouten was transferred to the Oranje Lijn, a shipping company sailing to Canada that had been acquired by KPM. The Schouten remained in service until the end of the 1960s and was subsequently scrapped.
