History and Service

Launch: The ship was launched on 22 September 1928. During the launch, a brake cable snapped, causing the stern to collide with the embankment of the Hollandsche IJssel. Some damage was caused to the paving, but the ship itself remained undamaged.

War service: In 1942, the ship was requisitioned by the British Ministry of War Transport and deployed for wartime service. After the war, the ship returned to the KJCPL in 1947 and was thoroughly refitted in 1948 to restore it to its pre-war condition.

Post-war service: After the war, the ship was mainly deployed on the route between the Far East and East Africa. In May 1959, the Tjibadak was sold to scrap dealers in Hong Kong and taken out of service
