The SS Mirfak from 1918 was a Dutch steam cargo ship, built by the Gebr. Müller shipyard in Foxhol, Groningen, for the Rotterdam shipping company Van Nievelt, Goudriaan & Co. The ship had a gross tonnage of 4,328 tons and was equipped with a 2-cylinder 2-stroke diesel engine from Steyaard & Walen from Rotterdam, with a power of 130 hp and a speed of approximately 7 knots.

Service and Incidents

On 21 December 1919, the Mirfak ran aground in dense fog near Noordwijk, at the 6th pole in the North Sea. The ship lost its rudder en route and the propeller was damaged. It was loaded with linseed, and before the ship could be refloated, the cargo first had to be unloaded. Local residents were enlisted to transport the linseed to the Schie in Noordwijk Binnen, from where flat-bottomed boats brought the cargo to Rotterdam. After repairs, the ship remained in service.

During the Second World War, the Mirfak hit a mine and eventually sank. The crew was rescued by a lifeboat from Noordwijk
