The MS AIDAbella is a cruise ship operated by AIDA Cruises, built in 2008 by the German shipyard Meyer Werft. The ship is the second in the Sphinx class, following the AIDAdiva, and is designed for a wide range of destinations, from the Mediterranean to the Canary Islands and South-East Asia.

The AIDAbella is equipped with modern facilities, including the "Theatrium", a combination of theatre and atrium, and an extensive wellness centre. The cabins are divided into 18 different categories, ranging from inside cabins to luxury suites with private jacuzzis.

History and Service

The AIDAbella was delivered to AIDA Cruises on 14 April 2008 and set sail on her maiden voyage from Rostock to Bergen on 24 April 2008. The ship has since operated in various regions, including the Baltic Sea, the Canary Islands, the Mediterranean, South-East Asia, the United States and the Caribbean. In 2017, the AIDAbella became the first German cruise ship to operate year-round from Shanghai, targeting the Chinese market. Itran aground in the port of Hamburg, striking the quay at the Steinwerder Terminal. The damage was limited to the stern above the waterline, and no injuries or environmental pollution were reported.

Future Modernisation

As part of the AIDA Evolution programme, the largest modernisation project in the history of AIDA Cruises, the AIDAbella will undergo an extensive refurbishment. The planned dry-dock period is from 21 January to 11 March 2026. During this period, all cabins will be refurbished, the number of suites will be increased, new bars and restaurants will be added, and the “Theatrium” will be refurbished. In addition, technical upgrades will be carried out to improve energy efficiency and sustainability.
